Current TFS Extension product in the making: Test (Result) Coverage Control

Currently I am working on one particular product to ease one particular pain: getting a requirement’s test coverage and test result report instantly. This will be a custom Work Item Tracking control clearly indicating whether the currently open work item has:

  • Any Test Cases attached at all
  • If it has Test cases are linked to the Work Item, are none, some or all of them assigned to Test Suites within Test Plans
  • Have none, some or all of those planned Test Cases been performed with all configured Test Configurations and finally, if so
  • Have all, some or none of those test runs passed successfully or were failed.

This allows the Work Item (typically a requirement) author to see the test coverage clearly and instantly and thereby significantly reducing the manual overhead and tool switches (Visual Studio to Microsoft Test Manager and back).
